ಕಾಸರಗೋಡು ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ಸ್ನೇಹಾಲಯ ಚಾರಿಟೇಬಲ್ ಟ್ರಸ್ಟ್ ಮತ್ತೊಮ್ಮೆ ಮಾನವೀಯತೆಯ ಅಪೂರ್ವ ಉದಾಹರಣೆಯಾಗಿ, 12 ವರ್ಷಗಳಿಂದ ಕಾಣೆಯಾಗಿದ್ದ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ಅವರ ಕುಟುಂಬದೊಡನೆ ಮರುಸಂಗಮಗೊಳಿಸಿದೆ.
ಬಿಹಾರದ ನಾಲಂದಾ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ಬೇಡೌಲಿ ಗ್ರಾಮದ ಬಾಲಚನ್ ಮಂಜ್ಹಿ (ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಸುನಿಲ್ ಎಂದು ಗುರುತಿಸಲಾಗಿದ್ದವರು) ಅವರನ್ನು ಕಳೆದ ಡಿಸೆಂಬರ್ 21, 2025 ರಂದು ತೊಕ್ಕೊಟ್ಟು ಬಸ್ ನಿಲ್ದಾಣದ ಸಮೀಪದಿಂದ ರಕ್ಷಿಸಲಾಯಿತು. ಸ್ಥಳೀಯ ನಾಗರಿಕರಾದ ರೋಶನ್ ಡಿ’ಸೋಜಾ ಅವರ ಮಾಹಿತಿಯ ಮೇರೆಗೆ ಸ್ನೇಹಾಲಯ ತಂಡ ತಕ್ಷಣವೇ ಕಾರ್ಯಪ್ರವೃತ್ತವಾಗಿ, ಅವರನ್ನು ಸುರಕ್ಷಿತವಾಗಿ ತಮ್ಮ ಮನೋಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಪುನರ್ವಸತಿ ಕೇಂದ್ರಕ್ಕೆ ದಾಖಲಿಸಿತು.
ಅವರನ್ನು ಕಂಡಾಗ ಅವರು ತುಂಬಾ ದುರ್ಬಲ ಸ್ಥಿತಿಯಲ್ಲಿದ್ದರು. ಸರಿಯಾದ ಸಂವಹನ ಸಾಧ್ಯವಾಗದ ಸ್ಥಿತಿ, ದಿಕ್ಕುತೋಚದ ವರ್ತನೆ, ಅಲೆದಾಟ ಹಾಗೂ ವೈಯಕ್ತಿಕ ಸ್ವಚ್ಛತೆಯ ಕೊರತೆ ಎಲ್ಲವೂ ಅವರ ನೋವಿನ ಕಥೆಯನ್ನು ಹೇಳುತ್ತಿತ್ತು.
ಮಾಹಿತಿಯ ಪ್ರಕಾರ, ಸುನಿಲ್ ಅವರು ಮಾನಸಿಕ ಆರೋಗ್ಯ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆಯಿಂದ ಬಳಲುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು ಮತ್ತು ದಿನಗೂಲಿ ಕಾರ್ಮಿಕರಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಕಾಲಕ್ರಮೇಣ ಅವರ ಆರೋಗ್ಯ ಹದಗೆಟ್ಟಿದ್ದು, ಅವರು ಕಾಣೆಯಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಆ ಕ್ಷಣದಿಂದ ಕುಟುಂಬವು ಅವನಿಗಾಗಿ ವರ್ಷಗಳ ಕಾಲ ಕಾಯುತ್ತಲೇ ಇತ್ತು.

ಸತತ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನಗಳ ಫಲವಾಗಿ, ಸ್ನೇಹಾಲಯ ತಂಡವು ಅವರ ಕುಟುಂಬವನ್ನು ಬಿಹಾರದಲ್ಲಿ ಪತ್ತೆಹಚ್ಚಲು ಯಶಸ್ವಿಯಾಯಿತು. ಮಾರ್ಚ್ 17, 2026 ರಂದು, 12 ವರ್ಷಗಳ ಬಳಿಕ, ಅವರು ತಮ್ಮ ತಂದೆ-ತಾಯಿ, ಪತ್ನಿ ಮತ್ತು ಇಬ್ಬರು ಮಕ್ಕಳೊಡನೆ ಮರುಸಂಗಮಗೊಂಡರು.
ಆ ಕ್ಷಣ…ಕಣ್ಣೀರಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾತಾಡಿದ ಸಂತೋಷ…ಹೃದಯಗಳನ್ನು ಜೋಡಿಸಿದ ಪ್ರೀತಿ…ಕುಟುಂಬದವರು ಅವನನ್ನು ಹರ್ಷದಿಂದ ಬರಮಾಡಿಕೊಂಡು, ಅಪಾರ ಸಂತೋಷ ಮತ್ತು ಕೃತಜ್ಞತೆಯನ್ನು ವ್ಯಕ್ತಪಡಿಸಿದರು.
ಒಂದು ಮನೆ ಮತ್ತೆ ನಗುತೊಡಗಿತು… ಒಂದು ಕುಟುಂಬ ಮತ್ತೆ ಪೂರ್ಣವಾಯಿತು…

A Journey Back Home: Snehalaya Reunites Missing Man with Family After 12 Years

Manjeshwar, March 20, 2026: In a remarkable and compassionate effort, the Snehalaya Charitable Trust, Kasaragod, successfully reunited Mr. Sunil (original name: Balchan Manjhi) from Bedauli Village, Barbigha Post, Nalanda District, Bihar , with his father, mother, wife, and children after he had been missing for 12 long years.

Mr. Sunil was rescued on December 21, 2025, near Thokottu bus stand, based on information provided by a concerned citizen, Mr. Roshan D’Souza . He was found in a vulnerable condition, exhibiting poor communication, lack of orientation, wandering behavior, and poor personal hygiene. Recognizing his urgent need for care and protection, the Snehalaya team promptly intervened and admitted him to the Snehalaya Psycho-Social Rehabilitation Centre.

According to available information, Mr. Sunil had a history of mental illness and had previously worked as a daily wage labourer before his condition deteriorated. Due to his mental health challenges, he had gone missing and remained untraceable for over a decade.

Under the guidance of Br. Joseph Crasta, Founder of Snehalaya, Mr. Sunil received comprehensive care, including medical treatment, psychological assessment, and rehabilitation support. He was provided with two months of medication and regular counselling sessions to address his mental health condition, along with guidance for continued follow-up care.

Through persistent efforts, the Snehalaya team successfully traced his family in Bihar. On March 17, 2026, he was reunited with his loved ones. The reunion was deeply emotional, with his family expressing immense happiness and relief. The family shared a very positive response, welcoming him back with love and care. Mr. Sunil is a father of two sons, and his return has brought renewed hope and stability to the family.
