ಮಂಜೇಶ್ವರ, ಆಗಸ್ಟ್ 3, 2026: ಮೂರು ವರ್ಷಗಳ ಕಾಲ ನಾಪತ್ತೆಯಾಗಿದ್ದ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯೊಬ್ಬರು, ಸ್ನೇಹಾಲಯ ಮಾನಸಿಕ-ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಪುನರ್ವಸತಿ ಕೇಂದ್ರದ ನಿರಂತರ ಆರೈಕೆ, ಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಪುನರ್ವಸತಿ ಸೇವೆಯ ಫಲವಾಗಿ ತಮ್ಮ ಕುಟುಂಬದೊಂದಿಗೆ ಮತ್ತೆ ಒಂದಾದ ಅಪರೂಪದ ಮಾನವೀಯ ಕ್ಷಣ ಮಂಜೇಶ್ವರದ ಸ್ನೇಹಾಲಯ ಮಾನಸಿಕ-ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಪುನರ್ವಸತಿ ಕೇಂದ್ರ ಭಾವಪೂರ್ಣವಾಗಿ ನಡೆಯಿತು.

ಈ ಮಾನವೀಯ ಪಯಣವು 2025ರ ಜನವರಿ 7ರಂದು ಆರಂಭವಾಯಿತು. ಆ ದಿನ ಸ್ನೇಹಾಲಯದ ಸಂಸ್ಥಾಪಕರಾದ ಬ್ರದರ್ ಜೋಸೆಫ್ ಕ್ರಾಸ್ತಾ ರವರ ಮಾರ್ಗದರ್ಶನದ ಮೂಲಕ ಸ್ನೇಹಾಲಯದ ರಕ್ಷಣಾ ತಂಡವು ಕಾಸರಗೋಡು ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ಮಂಜೇಶ್ವರದ ರಸ್ತೆ ಬದಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಅಲೆದಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಸುಮಾರು 50 ವರ್ಷದ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯೊಬ್ಬರನ್ನು ರಕ್ಷಿಸಿತು. ಅವರ ಗುರುತು ತಿಳಿಯದ ಕಾರಣ, ತಾತ್ಕಾಲಿಕವಾಗಿ “ಶ್ರೀವಾಸ್ತವ” ಎಂದು ದಾಖಲಿಸಲಾಯಿತು.

ರಕ್ಷಣೆಗೊಳ್ಳುವ ವೇಳೆಗೆ ಅವರು ಅತ್ಯಂತ ದುರ್ಬಲ ಹಾಗೂ ನಿರ್ಲಕ್ಷಿತ ಸ್ಥಿತಿಯಲ್ಲಿದ್ದರು. ವೈಯಕ್ತಿಕ ಸ್ವಚ್ಛತೆಯ ಕೊರತೆ, ಅಸಂಬದ್ಧ ಮಾತು, ತನ್ನಷ್ಟಕ್ಕೆ ತಾನೇ ಮಾತನಾಡುವುದು, ದಿಕ್ಕುತಪ್ಪಿದ ವರ್ತನೆ, ವಸ್ತುಗಳನ್ನು ಸಂಗ್ರಹಿಸಿಟ್ಟುಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ಪ್ರವೃತ್ತಿ ಹಾಗೂ ಪಾನ್ ಮಸಾಲಾ ಮತ್ತು ಬೀಡಿ ಸೇವನೆಯ ಅಭ್ಯಾಸ ಅವರಲ್ಲಿ ಕಂಡುಬಂದಿತ್ತು. ಅವರು ಹಿಂದಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾತನಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದು, ತಾವು ಗೋವಾದವರು ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿದರೂ, ತಮ್ಮ ಹೆಸರು ಅಥವಾ ಕುಟುಂಬದ ಕುರಿತು ಯಾವುದೇ ವಿಶ್ವಾಸಾರ್ಹ ಮಾಹಿತಿ ನೀಡಲು ಸಾಧ್ಯವಾಗಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ.

ಅವರ ಮಾನಸಿಕ ಆರೋಗ್ಯದ ಸ್ಥಿತಿಯನ್ನು ಪರಿಗಣಿಸಿ, ಸ್ನೇಹಾಲಯ ತಂಡವು ಅವರನ್ನು ಸ್ನೇಹಾಲಯ ಮಾನಸಿಕ-ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಪುನರ್ವಸತಿ ಕೇಂದ್ರಕ್ಕೆ ದಾಖಲಿಸಿ ಸಮಗ್ರ ಮನೋವೈದ್ಯಕೀಯ ಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆ, ಸಮಾಲೋಚನೆ, ಪುನರ್ವಸತಿ, ಉದ್ಯೋಗ ಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆಗಳು ಹಾಗೂ ಪ್ರೀತಿಪೂರ್ವಕ ಆರೈಕೆಯನ್ನು ಒದಗಿಸಿತು. ಈ ಅವಧಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಅವರ ಗುರುತು ಹಾಗೂ ಕುಟುಂಬವನ್ನು ಪತ್ತೆಹಚ್ಚಲು ನಿರಂತರ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನಗಳು ನಡೆದರೂ ಯಾವುದೇ ಸುಳಿವು ದೊರೆಯಲಿಲ್ಲ.

ಸುಮಾರು ಒಂದೂವರೆ ವರ್ಷದ ನಿರಂತರ ಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆ ಮತ್ತು ಪುನರ್ವಸತಿಯ ಬಳಿಕ ಮಹತ್ವದ ತಿರುವೊಂದು ಕಂಡುಬಂತು. ಸಮಾಲೋಚನಾ ಅಧಿವೇಶನದ ವೇಳೆ ಅವರ ಮಾನಸಿಕ ಸ್ಥಿತಿ ಗಮನಾರ್ಹವಾಗಿ ಸುಧಾರಿಸಿತ್ತು. ಆಗ ಅವರು ಗೋವಾದ ಬಿಚೋಲಿಂ ಪ್ರದೇಶದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ತಮ್ಮ ಮನೆಯ ವಿಳಾಸವನ್ನು ನೆನಪಿಸಿಕೊಂಡರು. ಅಲ್ಲದೆ, ತಮ್ಮ ನಿಜವಾದ ಹೆಸರು “ಕಾಂತಾ” ಎಂದು ತಿಳಿಸಿದರು.

ತಕ್ಷಣವೇ ಸ್ನೇಹಾಲಯ ತಂಡವು ಗೋವಾ ಪೊಲೀಸರನ್ನು ಸಂಪರ್ಕಿಸಿ, ಅವರ ಛಾಯಾಚಿತ್ರ ಹಾಗೂ ಅವರು ನೆನಪಿಸಿಕೊಂಡ ಮಾಹಿತಿಯನ್ನು ಹಂಚಿಕೊಂಡಿತು. ಕೇವಲ ಎರಡು ದಿನಗಳಲ್ಲೇ, ಗೋವಾ ಪೊಲೀಸರು ಕಾಂತಾ ಅವರು ಸುಮಾರು ಮೂರು ವರ್ಷಗಳಿಂದ ನಾಪತ್ತೆಯಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಅವರ ಕುಟುಂಬವು ಈಗಾಗಲೇ ನಾಪತ್ತೆ ಪ್ರಕರಣ ದಾಖಲಿಸಿರುವುದಾಗಿ ದೃಢಪಡಿಸಿದರು. ನಂತರ ಪೊಲೀಸರು ಅವರ ಕುಟುಂಬಕ್ಕೆ ಮಾಹಿತಿ ನೀಡಿದರು. ಕೆಲವೇ ದಿನಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾಂತಾ ಅವರ ಸಹೋದರ, ಸೋದರಳಿಯ ಹಾಗೂ ಅತ್ತಿಗೆ ಗೋವಾದಿಂದ ಸ್ನೇಹಾಲಯಕ್ಕೆ ಆಗಮಿಸಿ ಅವರನ್ನು ಕರೆದುಕೊಂಡು ಹೋದರು. ಮೂರು ವರ್ಷಗಳ ನಿರೀಕ್ಷೆಯ ನಂತರ ನಡೆದ ಈ ಪುನರ್ಮಿಲನವು ಕಣ್ಣೀರಿನಲ್ಲೇ ಸಂತೋಷ, ಕೃತಜ್ಞತೆ ಮತ್ತು ನೆಮ್ಮದಿಯನ್ನು ಮೂಡಿಸಿತು. ತಮ್ಮ ಕಣ್ಮರೆಯಾಗಿದ್ದ ಪ್ರೀತಿಪಾತ್ರರನ್ನು ಮತ್ತೆ ಅಪ್ಪಿಕೊಂಡ ಕ್ಷಣ ಕುಟುಂಬದವರಿಗೆ ಮರೆಯಲಾಗದ ಅನುಭವವಾಗಿತ್ತು.

A Life Reunited After Three Years: Snehalaya Reconnects Kantha with His Family

Manjeshwar, August 3, 2026: An emotional and heartwarming reunion unfolded at the Snehalaya Psycho-Social Rehabilitation Centre, where a man who had been missing for three years was finally reunited with his family after receiving continuous care, treatment, and rehabilitation.

This remarkable journey began on January 7, 2025, when the Snehalaya rescue team, under the guidance of Founder Bro. Joseph Crasta, found a man, approximately 50 years old, wandering along a roadside in Manjeshwar, Kasaragod district. As his identity was unknown at the time, he was temporarily registered under the name “Shrivastava.”

At the time of rescue, he was in a severely neglected condition. He exhibited poor personal hygiene, irrelevant speech, self-muttering, disorientation, hoarding behaviour, and was addicted to pan masala and beedis. Although he communicated in Hindi and claimed to be from Goa, he was unable to provide any reliable information regarding his name, identity, or family.

Recognizing his urgent need for psychiatric care, the Snehalaya team admitted him to the Snehalaya Psycho-Social Rehabilitation Centre, where he received comprehensive psychiatric treatment, psychological counselling, rehabilitation, occupational therapy, and compassionate care. Despite continuous efforts, his identity and family remained unknown for many months.

After nearly one and a half years of consistent treatment and rehabilitation, a significant breakthrough occurred. During a counselling session, as his mental health had improved considerably, he was able to recall the address of his home in Bicholim, Goa. He also revealed that his real name was Kantha.

The Snehalaya team immediately contacted the Goa Police, sharing his photograph and the information he had remembered. Within just two days, the Goa Police confirmed that Kantha had been missing for nearly three years and that his family had already filed a missing person complaint. The police promptly informed his family.

A few days later, Kantha’s brother, nephew, and sister-in-law travelled from Goa to Snehalaya to take him home. Their reunion, after three years of uncertainty and separation, was filled with tears of joy, gratitude, and relief. For the family, embracing their long-lost loved one once again was an unforgettable and deeply emotional moment.

This touching reunion stands as a powerful testimony to the life-changing impact of timely rescue, compassionate psychiatric treatment, dedicated rehabilitation services, and the effective collaboration between mental health professionals, the police, and family members.
