Snehalaya Celebrates Gandhi Jayanti, Honours Older Persons, and Marks Two Years of De-Addiction Services
Manjeshwar, October 2, 2026: Gandhi Jayanti was celebrated with warmth, joy and enthusiasm at Snehalaya Psycho-Social Rehabilitation Centre, Manjeshwar, commemorating the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and reflecting on his enduring values of peace, service, humanity and peaceful coexistence.
The program was presided over by Mr. Joseph Crasta, Executive Director of Snehalaya. The dignitaries present on the dais included Mrs. Olivia Crasta, Trustee and Secretary; Fr. Cyril D’Souza; Mrs. Saritha Crasta, Trustee; Mrs. Veena D’Souza, Administrator; and Mr. Clint Joseph, Head of the Clinical Department.
The program began with the traditional lighting of the ceremonial lamp, symbolizing peace, hope and the spirit of humanitarian service.
A special highlight of the celebration was the felicitation of Senior staff members and senior citizen residents of Snehalaya. The gesture recognized their valuable contributions, life experiences and the dignity they carry through the different stages of life.
For the senior residents, the occasion was more than a celebration. It became a moment of feeling remembered, respected and surrounded by people who care for them. The gathering gave them a renewed sense of belonging and reminded them that they are an important part of the Snehalaya family.
The celebration once again reflected Snehalaya’s commitment to treating every individual with dignity, compassion and care.
Another significant milestone celebrated during the program was the completion of two years of service by Snehalaya’s De-Addiction Centre. The Centre has been continuously supporting individuals affected by addiction through care, guidance and rehabilitation, helping them move towards a more dignified, hopeful and meaningful life.
Adding color and cheer to the occasion, Snehalaya residents participated enthusiastically in various cultural programs and recreational games. The activities brought smiles and laughter to the gathering, creating an atmosphere filled with happiness and togetherness. As a special gesture of love and appreciation, every resident was presented with a valuable gift.
This year’s Gandhi Jayanti celebration at Snehalaya was not merely a commemoration of Mahatma Gandhi’s life and ideals. It conveyed a deeper message—that caring for a person goes beyond providing treatment. True care means offering love, dignity, companionship and the feeling that “I too belong to this family.”
Through its continued service, Snehalaya carries forward a simple yet powerful humanitarian message: every life has value, every person deserves dignity, and every smile matters.
