ಕೇರಳದ ಮಲಪ್ಪುರಂ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ಕೊಝಿಮಣ್ಣ ತಾಲ್ಲೂಕಿನ ತವನೂರು ಅಂಚೆ ವ್ಯಾಪ್ತಿಯ ಮಂಗಲಚೇರಿ, ತಾಯತ್ ವೆಟ್ಟಿಲ್ ನಿವಾಸಿಯಾಗಿರುವ ಶ್ರೀಮತಿ ಹಫ್ಸಾ ಎಂ. ಅವರು ಮಾನಸಿಕ ಆರೋಗ್ಯ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆಯಿಂದಾಗಿ ಮಲಪ್ಪುರಂನ ಸರ್ಕಾರಿ ಮಾನಸಿಕ ಆಸ್ಪತ್ರೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆ ಪಡೆಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಅವರು ತಮ್ಮ ಊರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಉರ್ದು ಶಿಕ್ಷಕಿಯಾಗಿ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಆದರೆ ಮಾನಸಿಕ ಆರೋಗ್ಯ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆಯಿಂದಾಗಿ ತಮ್ಮ ವೃತ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ಸಮರ್ಪಕವಾಗಿ ನಿರ್ವಹಿಸಲು ಸಾಧ್ಯವಾಗದೆ ಆಸ್ಪತ್ರೆಗೆ ದಾಖಲಾಗಿ ಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆ ಪಡೆಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆ ಪೂರ್ಣಗೊಳ್ಳುವ ಮುನ್ನವೇ ಆಸ್ಪತ್ರೆಯಿಂದ ಒಬ್ಬರೇ ಹೊರಬಂದಿದ್ದ ಅವರು ಬಳಿಕ ನಾಪತ್ತೆಯಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಉದ್ಯೋಗ ಹುಡುಕುವ ಉದ್ದೇಶದಿಂದ ಕಾಸರಗೋಡಿಗೆ ಬಂದಿರುವುದಾಗಿ ಅವರು ತಿಳಿಸಿದ್ದರು. ಆದರೆ ಮಾನಸಿಕ ಆರೋಗ್ಯದ ತೊಂದರೆಯಿಂದಾಗಿ ಸುರಕ್ಷಿತವಾಗಿ ಜೀವನ ನಡೆಸಲು ಸಾಧ್ಯವಾಗದೆ ಅಸಹಾಯಕ ಮತ್ತು ಗೊಂದಲಮಯ ಸ್ಥಿತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಅಲೆದಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು.

ಈ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾಸರಗೋಡು ವನಿತಾ ಪೊಲೀಸ್ ಘಟಕದ ಸಿವಿಲ್ ಪೊಲೀಸ್ ಅಧಿಕಾರಿ ಶ್ರೀಮತಿ ಸೈದಾ ಅವರು ಹಫ್ಸಾ ಅವರ ಅಸಹಾಯಕ ಸ್ಥಿತಿಯನ್ನು ಗಮನಿಸಿ ರಕ್ಷಿಸಿದರು. ಬಳಿಕ ಅವರನ್ನು ಕಾಸರಗೋಡಿನ ಆನಂಗೂರಿನ ಸಖಿ ಒನ್ ಸ್ಟಾಪ್ ಕೇಂದ್ರಕ್ಕೆ ದಾಖಲಿಸಲಾಯಿತು. ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಮಾನಸಿಕ ಆರೋಗ್ಯ ಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆ, ನಿರಂತರ ಆರೈಕೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಪುನರ್ವಸತಿಯ ಅಗತ್ಯವಿರುವುದನ್ನು ಮನಗಂಡು, 2026ರ ಜೂನ್ 2ರಂದು ಅವರನ್ನು ಮಂಜೇಶ್ವರದ ಸ್ನೇಹಾಲಯ ಮಾನಸಿಕ-ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಪುನರ್ವಸತಿ ಕೇಂದ್ರಕ್ಕೆ ದಾಖಲಿಸಲಾಯಿತು. ದಾಖಲಾತಿಯ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಹಫ್ಸಾ ಅವರಲ್ಲಿ ಭ್ರಮಾತ್ಮಕ ಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠತೆಯ ಭಾವನೆ, ತನ್ನಲ್ಲಿಯೇ ಅತಿಯಾದ ಮಾತು, ಸೇರಿದಂತೆ ಮಾನಸಿಕ ಅಸ್ವಸ್ಥತೆಯ ಲಕ್ಷಣಗಳು ಕಂಡುಬಂದವು. ಸ್ನೇಹಾಲಯದ ಮನೋವೈದ್ಯಕೀಯ ತಂಡ ಮತ್ತು ಆರೈಕೆ ಸಿಬ್ಬಂದಿಯ ಮೇಲ್ವಿಚಾರಣೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಔಷಧೋಪಚಾರ, ಸಮಾಲೋಚನೆ, ಮಾನಸಿಕ-ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಬೆಂಬಲ ಹಾಗೂ ಪುನರ್ವಸತಿ ಸೇವೆಗಳನ್ನು ಒದಗಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ.

ಸ್ನೇಹಾಲಯದ ಸಂಸ್ಥಾಪಕರಾದ ಬ್ರದರ್ ಜೋಸೆಫ್ ಕ್ರಾಸ್ತಾ ಅವರು ವಿಚಾರ ವಿನಿಮಯ ಮಾಡಿ, “ಮಾನಸಿಕ ಆರೋಗ್ಯ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆಯಿಂದ ಬಳಲುತ್ತಿರುವ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಸಮಯೋಚಿತ ರಕ್ಷಣೆ, ಸೂಕ್ತ ಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆ ಮತ್ತು ಪುನರ್ವಸತಿ ದೊರೆಯುವುದು ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಅಗತ್ಯವಾಗಿದೆ. ಸಮಾಜದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಸಹಾಯಕವಾಗಿ ಅಲೆದಾಡುವವರನ್ನು ಕಂಡಾಗ ನಿರ್ಲಕ್ಷಿಸದೆ ಸಂಬಂಧಪಟ್ಟ ಪೊಲೀಸ್ ಇಲಾಖೆ, ಆರೋಗ್ಯ ಇಲಾಖೆ ಅಥವಾ ಪುನರ್ವಸತಿ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಗಳಿಗೆ ಮಾಹಿತಿ ನೀಡಬೇಕು. ಇಂತಹ ಮಾನವೀಯ ಸ್ಪಂದನೆಯಿಂದ ಅನೇಕ ಜೀವಗಳಿಗೆ ಸುರಕ್ಷತೆ ಮತ್ತು ಹೊಸ ಬದುಕಿನ ಅವಕಾಶ ಒದಗಿಸಬಹುದು” ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿದರು.

Missing Teacher Reunited with Family After Three Months Through Snehalaya’s Psycho-Social Rehabilitation

Manjeshwar, August 5, 2026: A woman who had been missing for nearly three months has been successfully reunited with her family after receiving comprehensive psychiatric treatment, care, and psycho-social rehabilitation at Snehalaya Psycho-Social Rehabilitation Centre, Manjeshwar.

Mrs. Hafsa M., a resident of Mangalachery, Thayath Vettil, Thavanur Post, Kozhimanna Taluk, Malappuram District, Kerala, had been undergoing treatment for mental health issues at the Government Mental Hospital in Malappuram. She was working as an Urdu teacher in her hometown, but due to her deteriorating mental health condition, she was unable to continue her profession and had been admitted for psychiatric treatment. Before completing her treatment, she left the hospital on her own and subsequently went missing. According to her account, she had travelled to Kasaragod in search of employment. However, because of her mental illness, she was unable to care for herself and was found wandering in a vulnerable and disoriented condition.

Mrs. Hafsa was noticed and rescued by Mrs. Saida, Civil Police Officer of the Kasaragod Women Police Unit, who ensured her immediate safety. She was initially admitted to the Sakhi One Stop Centre, Anangoor, Kasaragod. Recognizing her need for continued psychiatric care, structured rehabilitation, and long-term support, she was admitted to Snehalaya Psycho-Social Rehabilitation Centre, Manjeshwar, on June 2, 2026.

At the time of admission, she exhibited symptoms including delusions of grandeur, excessive speech, and other manifestations of severe mental illness. Under the supervision of Snehalaya’s multidisciplinary mental health team, she received psychiatric treatment, counselling, psycho-social interventions, medication management, and rehabilitation services. Following continuous care and recovery, Snehalaya successfully traced her family and facilitated her reunion after nearly three months of separation.

Speaking on the occasion, Bro. Joseph Crasta, Founder of Snehalaya, said, “Timely rescue, appropriate psychiatric treatment, and rehabilitation are essential for people living with mental illness. When members of the public come across individuals wandering in distress or unable to care for themselves, they should immediately inform the police, health authorities, or rehabilitation organizations instead of ignoring the situation. Such compassionate intervention can protect lives and help individuals return safely to their families.”

Snehalaya also expressed its sincere appreciation to Mrs. Saida, Civil Police Officer of the Kasaragod Women Police Unit, and the staff of Sakhi One Stop Centre, Anangoor, for their prompt intervention, compassionate support, and commitment in ensuring Mrs. Hafsa’s safety and facilitating her access to appropriate mental health care.
