Manjeshwar: June 2, 2025  After three long years of heartbreak and uncertainty, 28-year-old Vikas was finally reunited with his father, brother, and uncle in Newar Gaon, Lalbarra Tahsil, Balaghat District, MP. The emotional reunion brought tears of relief and joy to his family and villagers, who had feared the worst but never gave up hope.
Vikas, a former auto driver, had struggled with addiction to ganja, which led to severe mental health issues and his eventual disappearance. A missing person complaint was filed, and his family tirelessly searched for him. Tragically, the trauma of his absence deeply affected his mother, who passed away just months after he went missing. His father, a daily wage laborer, and brother, a truck driver, continued to hold on to the hope of his return.
The breakthrough came on March 31, 2025, when Vikas was spotted wandering disoriented on Car Street, Mangalore. Thanks to the timely intervention of Mr. Gurudath Nayak, a compassionate citizen, and the swift action of the Snehalaya Charitable Trust, Vikas was rescued and given immediate care. He was later transferred to Shraddha Foundation, where efforts began to trace his origins.
Through dedicated follow-up and counseling, his identity and hometown were confirmed. On June 2, Vikas was joyfully embraced by his family, ending a chapter of grief and beginning one of healing. His condition has since stabilized, and he has been given a two-month supply of medication along with a referral for follow-up care at a nearby government hospital.
The family remains grateful to all who played a role in bringing Vikas home a powerful reminder of what compassion, persistence, and community support can achieve.
