Manjeshwar, March 22, 2025: Eshwar Malpe, widely celebrated as the “Aqua Man” of Udupi and a proud son of Karnataka, paid an unexpected yet momentous visit to Snehalaya Psycho-Social and De-addiction Centre. A self-taught underwater search and recovery specialist, Malpe has spent over two decades undertaking daring and unparalleled rescue missions, saving lives and retrieving nearly 1,000 remains from water bodies. His expertise extends beyond human rescues; whether it be mobile phones, jewellery, or even drones lost in the depths, Malpe’s unparalleled diving skills have earned him widespread acclaim. A testament to his precision and dedication was the retrieval of a high-end mobile phone from a depth of ten feet at Malpe Port—a feat that further cemented his reputation as a master diver.
Malpe’s visit to Snehalaya was purely incidental, as he accompanied the family of a mentally ill individual seeking admission to the center’s renowned psycho-social care and rehabilitation program. However, what began as a routine accompaniment soon turned into a profound experience for the veteran diver. Witnessing first-hand the compassionate and tireless service rendered by Snehalaya in rehabilitating the destitute and mentally ill, Malpe was deeply moved. He wholeheartedly lauded the institution’s mission, emphasizing the dire need for more such centres dedicated to alleviating human suffering.
In a heartfelt gesture, Snehalaya’s founder, Br. Joseph Crasta, along with the entire staff, extended a warm and reverent welcome to the esteemed guest. As a token of appreciation, Malpe was felicitated with a bouquet and a traditional shawl. Addressing the gathering, Malpe articulated his deep concerns about the growing struggles faced by marginalized communities and reiterated the indispensable role of institutions like Snehalaya in fostering hope and healing.

ಮಂಜೇಶ್ವರ, ಮಾರ್ಚ್ 22, 2025: ಉಡುಪಿ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ಹೆಮ್ಮೆ, ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ‘ಆಕ್ವಾ ಮ್ಯಾನ್’ ಎಂದು ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧಿ ಪಡೆದ ಈಶ್ವರ ಮಲ್ಪೆ, ಸ್ನೇಹಾಲಯ ಮಾನಸಿಕ-ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಪುನರ್ವಸತಿ ಮತ್ತು ವ್ಯಸನಮುಕ್ತ ಕೇಂದ್ರಕ್ಕೆ ಅಪ್ರತೀಕ್ಷಿತ ಆದರೆ ಸ್ಮರಣೀಯ ಭೇಟಿ ನೀಡಿದರು. ಸ್ವಯಂ ಕಲಿತ ಜಲಾಂತರ್ಗತ ಹುಡುಕು ಮತ್ತು ಪತ್ತೆಮಾಡುವ ತಜ್ಞರಾದ ಮಲ್ಪೆ, ಕಳೆದ ಎರಡು ದಶಕಗಳ ಕಾಲ ಅಪರೂಪದ ಮತ್ತು ಸಾಹಸಿಕ ರಕ್ಷಣಾ ಕಾರ್ಯಗಳನ್ನು ನೆರವೇರಿಸಿ, ಸಾವಿರಕ್ಕೂ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಮೃತದೇಹಗಳನ್ನು ಜಲಸಮಾಧಿಯಿಂದ ಹೊರತೆಗೆದು, ಅನೇಕರಿಗೆ ಹೊಸ ಜೀವ ನೀಡುವ ಕಾರ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ನಿರತರಾಗಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಮಾನವ ರಕ್ಷಣೆಯಷ್ಟೇ ಅಲ್ಲ, ನೀರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಕಳೆದುಹೋದ ಮೊಬೈಲ್ಗಳು, ಆಭರಣಗಳು, ಡ್ರೋನ್ಗಳಂತಹ ಅಮೂಲ್ಯ ವಸ್ತುಗಳೂ ಸಹ ಅವರ ಅಪೂರ್ವ ಈಜು ತಂತ್ರಗಳ ಮೂಲಕ ಮರಳಿ ದೊರೆತಿವೆ. ಮಲ್ಪೆ ಬಂದರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಹತ್ತು ಅಡಿ ನೀರಿನ ಆಳದಿಂದ ದುಬಾರಿ ಮೊಬೈಲ್ನ್ನು ಪತ್ತೆಹಚ್ಚಿದ ಘಟನೆಯು ಅವರ ನಿಖರತೆ ಮತ್ತು ಕೌಶಲ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ಮತ್ತಷ್ಟು ಮಾನ್ಯತೆ ತಂದಿದೆ.

ಈಶ್ವರ ಮಲ್ಪೆಯ ಈ ಭೇಟಿ, ಅವರ ಬೆಂಬಲ, ಹಾಗೂ ಸ್ನೇಹಾಲಯದ ಕಾರ್ಯದ ಮೇಲಿನ ಅವರ ಪ್ರೋತ್ಸಾಹ, ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಗೆ ಅನನ್ಯ ಕೊಡುಗೆಯಾಗಿದೆ. ಅವರ ಅಮೋಘ ಬೆಂಬಲ, ಹಾಗೂ ಸ್ನೇಹಾಲಯದ ಮಾನವೀಯ ಕಾರ್ಯಪದ್ಧತಿಗೆ ನೀಡಿದ ಉಜ್ಜೀವನಕರ ಪ್ರೋತ್ಸಾಹ, ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಗೆ ಹೊಸ ಉತ್ಸಾಹ ಮತ್ತು ಸ್ಫೂರ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ತುಂಬಿತು. ಅವರು ವ್ಯಕ್ತಪಡಿಸಿದ ಸಹಾನುಭೂತಿ ಮತ್ತು ಹೃತ್ಪೂರ್ವಕ ಮೆಚ್ಚುಗೆಯು, ಈ ಪವಿತ್ರ ಸೇವೆಯನ್ನು ಇನ್ನಷ್ಟು ಉತ್ಸಾಹದೊಂದಿಗೆ ಮುಂದುವರಿಸುವ ಸಂಕಲ್ಪವನ್ನು ಮತ್ತಷ್ಟು ದೃಢಪಡಿಸಿತು. ಭೂಮಿಯ ಮೇಲೋ, ಸಮುದ್ರದ ತಳವೋ ಮಾನವೀಯತೆಗೂ, ಕಾಳಜಿಗೂ ಆಸ್ತಿ ಪಾಸ್ತಿ, ಗಡಿಗಳು, ತಡೆಗಳು ಇಲ್ಲ. ನೀರಿನಡಿಗಾಗಲೀ, ಭೂಮಿಯ ಮೇಲಾಗಲೀ ಎಲ್ಲೆಡೆ ಉದಾತ್ತ ಸೇವೆಯ ಮೂಲಕ ಸಮಾಜದಲ್ಲಿ ಆಳವಾದ ಬದಲಾವಣೆಯನ್ನು ತರಬಹುದೆಂಬ ನಂಬಿಕೆಗೆ ಈಶ್ವರ ಮಲ್ಪೆಯ ಸಂದೇಶ ಶಕ್ತಿ ತುಂಬಿದ್ದು, ಸಮಾಜದ ಅಂಚಿನಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಜನರ ಸಂಕಷ್ಟದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ತಮ್ಮ ಚಿಂತನೆಗಳನ್ನು ಹಂಚಿಕೊಂಡು, ಸ್ನೇಹಾಲಯದಂತಹ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಗಳ ಅಗತ್ಯವನ್ನು ಪುನಃ ಒತ್ತಿ ಹೇಳಿದರು.
