On June 28, 2024, Shekhappa Tavali, a 25-year-old mentally ill person who had been wandering near Maryhill for many months, sleeping at the bus stand, and eating food given by local shopkeepers, was successfully rescued and admitted to the Snehalaya Psychosocial Rehabilitation Centre for Men. This compassionate effort was led by Bro. Joseph Crasta, the founder of Snehalaya, and the trustee of Snehalaya, Mr. Prakash Pinto as per the information given by a public person Mr Gopal Devadiga. At the time of admission, Shekhappa Tavali was found with poor hygiene and shabby clothes, and he had a habit of using tobacco and alcohol. He communicates in Hindi, claims to be from Bagalkote, Karnataka, and identifies his parents as Yamanappa and Lalitha. Currently, he is receiving care and treatment at Snehalaya.
