Reji Kumar Reunited with His Family After Treatment and Rehabilitation at Snehalaya
Manjeshwar, October 21, 2026: Mr. Reji Kumar, a native of Konnakkode, Kasaragod district, was successfully reunited with his family on October 21, 2026, at 10:40 a.m., following treatment and rehabilitation at the Snehalaya Psycho-Social Rehabilitation Centre, Manjeshwar, under the Azim Premji Philanthropic Initiatives. His sister, Mrs. Sathi Devi, a resident of Thalachelloor, Kavalam, Alappuzha district, Kerala, received him, marking a new beginning in his journey towards recovery with the love and support of his family.
Mr. Reji Kumar was noticed by the police while he was experiencing severe psychological distress in Konnakkode. Recognising his vulnerable condition, Police Sub-Inspector Mr. Muralidhar intervened promptly and took the necessary steps to ensure his safety. With the timely assistance of the police, Reji Kumar was brought to Snehalaya on July 13, 2026, and admitted for treatment and care. At the time of admission, he exhibited symptoms such as talking to himself, laughing without apparent reason, and excessive talking. Recognising his need for appropriate psychiatric evaluation, treatment, and continuous care, the Snehalaya team initiated his rehabilitation in a safe and compassionate environment.
Under the guidance of Brother Joseph Crasta, Founder of Snehalaya Charitable Trust, the professional team conducted a comprehensive assessment of Reji Kumar’s physical, mental, and social well-being. He received psychiatric treatment, medication, counselling, nutritious food, personal care, and psychosocial rehabilitation services. Special attention was given to improving his mental stability, emotional well-being, communication skills, and ability to perform daily activities. The Snehalaya team continuously monitored his progress and provided the necessary support to help him move towards a more stable and independent life.
As part of the rehabilitation process, efforts were made to trace his family and facilitate his safe reunion with them. These efforts proved successful on October 21, 2026, under the APPI initiative, when his sister, Mrs. Sathi Devi, received him at Snehalaya. The reunion represents a significant milestone in his recovery and offers renewed hope for his future, supported by the love, care, and understanding of his family.
On this occasion, Snehalaya expressed its heartfelt gratitude to Police Sub-Inspector Mr. Muralidhar and the concerned police personnel for their timely intervention and humanitarian service in ensuring Reji Kumar’s safety and facilitating access to treatment. This successful reunion highlights the importance of cooperation between the police, rehabilitation institutions, and families in rescuing vulnerable individuals, ensuring appropriate care, and helping them return to their loved ones.
The successful reunion conveys an important message: people experiencing mental health challenges should not be neglected or rejected but should instead be treated with love, compassion, dignity, and appropriate medical care. Timely intervention, proper treatment, continued rehabilitation, and family support can bring meaningful changes to the lives of vulnerable individuals. With its mission of serving the last person in society, particularly those who are neglected, abandoned, and without support, Snehalaya continues its humanitarian service by restoring hope and dignity to lives through love, compassion, and dedicated care.
