Destitute Man from Maharashtra Receives Shelter, Care and Rehabilitation at Snehalaya
Manjeshwar, October 7, 2026: A destitute man from Maharashtra, identified as Mr. Sagar, was found wandering in a distressed and vulnerable condition near SBI Bank in Mangalore and has been provided shelter, care and rehabilitation at the Snehalaya Psycho-Social Rehabilitation Centre, Manjeshwar.
Noticing Mr. Sagar in a helpless condition, Mrs. Lathika Carmel, a concerned member of the public, informed Br. Joseph Crasta, Founder of Snehalaya Charitable Trust, about his situation. Acting promptly on the information, the Snehalaya team reached the location and safely brought him to the centre on October 7, 2026.
At the time of admission, Mr. Sagar was observed to have poor personal hygiene, physical weakness, a tendency to wander and a habit of talking to himself. Considering his vulnerable condition, the Snehalaya team has initiated comprehensive care and rehabilitation support.
At Snehalaya, he is being provided with safe accommodation, nutritious food, personal care, medical attention, psycho-social support and rehabilitation services based on his needs. The centre will continue to monitor his condition and provide appropriate care aimed at improving his physical and mental well-being.
For a person who had been living in a vulnerable condition on the streets, the intervention has provided more than immediate safety—it marks the beginning of a journey towards dignity, stability and hope. Snehalaya remains committed to protecting the dignity and well-being of abandoned, destitute and vulnerable persons who are separated from their families and left without adequate support.
Efforts are being undertaken to gather further information regarding Mr. Sagar’s identity, background and family. If his relatives or family members are traced, Snehalaya will extend all possible assistance towards facilitating his safe and happy reunion with his loved ones.
Snehalaya Charitable Trust has been working for several years to identify and support abandoned and vulnerable persons, providing them with love, treatment, care and rehabilitation, while making efforts to reconnect them with their families whenever possible.
The timely intervention of Mrs. Lathika Carmel, together with the prompt response of Br. Joseph Crasta and the Snehalaya team, helped bring Mr. Sagar from a vulnerable situation on the streets to a safe and supportive environment.
