Man Found in Mental Distress at Kavoor Admitted to Snehalaya

Manjeshwar, July 20, 2026: Mr. Umed Kumar, a native of Korba district in the state of Chhattisgarh, was admitted to the Snehalaya Psycho-Social Rehabilitation Centre after being found in a mentally distressed and vulnerable condition near Mullerkad, Shivanagar Road, Kavoor, Mangaluru.

Upon noticing the situation, businessman Mr. Prakash Pinto immediately informed Mr. Prakash Pinto, Trustee of Snehalaya Charitable Trust. Subsequently, with the support of Mr. Prakash and Mr. Deepak Raj, and under the guidance of Trustee Mr. Prakash Pinto, Mr. Umed Kumar was safely rescued and brought to Snehalaya, where he was admitted for treatment and psychosocial rehabilitation.

According to the available information, Mr. Umed Kumar had been wandering aimlessly, talking to himself, behaving as though he was hearing voices that were not present, experiencing persecutory delusions (believing that people were following or trying to harm him), and at times displaying aggressive behaviour. His condition indicated the urgent need for psychiatric evaluation, medical care, and structured psychosocial rehabilitation.

Under the compassionate guidance of Br. Joseph Crasta, Founder and Managing Trustee of Snehalaya Charitable Trust, Mr. Umed Kumar was officially admitted to the rehabilitation centre on July 20, 2026. Immediately after admission, the Snehalaya team initiated primary medical care, ensured his safety, attended to his personal hygiene, and began the necessary rehabilitation interventions.

He is currently undergoing comprehensive physical and psychiatric evaluation under the supervision of medical doctors and mental health professionals. He is receiving psychiatric treatment, counselling, nutritious meals, personal care, and a safe, caring, and supportive environment. The Snehalaya team remains committed to helping him recover and regain a life of dignity and hope.

This incident once again highlights the importance of timely intervention and compassionate community support for persons experiencing mental illness.
