Mentally Distressed Man from Bihar Found in Distress at Katipalla Admitted to Snehalaya for Treatment and Rehabilitation

Manjeshwar, July 8, 2026: A mentally distressed man identified as Mr. Labindhar Maanji, a native of Patna, Bihar, was admitted to the Snehalaya Psycho-Social Rehabilitation Centre on July 7, 2026, after he was found wandering in a helpless and vulnerable condition at Katipalla, near MRPL, Surathkal, Mangalore. According to the information received, Mr. Kiran Kumar Karkala, a businessman from Katipalla, noticed the distressed condition of Mr. Labindhar Maanji and immediately came forward to help him on humanitarian grounds. Understanding the seriousness of the situation and realizing that he required proper care, protection, and treatment, Mr. Kiran Kumar informed Br. Joseph Crasta, the Founder of Snehalaya, and also assisted in safely bringing him to the Snehalaya Psycho-Social Rehabilitation Centre.

At the time of admission, Mr. Labindhar Maanji was found to be in need of immediate medical care, psychiatric evaluation, personal care, counselling, supervision, and psycho-social rehabilitation support. During the preliminary assessment, he was observed to have alcohol dependence syndrome, tobacco dependence syndrome, self-talk, self-smiling, hoarding behaviour, poor personal hygiene, and wandering behaviour. These symptoms indicated the need for continuous care, systematic treatment, emotional support, and a safe rehabilitative environment.

The Snehalaya team welcomed him with compassion and humanity and made necessary arrangements for his basic needs, safety, hygiene, and emergency care. Treatment, counselling, and rehabilitation measures have been initiated to help him regain stability, dignity, and better health. The team is also making efforts to gather more information about his family background and native place so that, after his recovery, steps can be taken towards family tracing and possible reunion.

Under the guidance and leadership of Br. Joseph Crasta, the Snehalaya Psycho-Social Rehabilitation Centre continues to provide shelter, treatment, counselling, psychiatric care, food, clothing, personal hygiene support, and rehabilitation services to destitute, abandoned, addicted, and mentally distressed persons found wandering helplessly on the streets.
