ಮಾನವೀಯತೆ ಮತ್ತು ಕರುಣೆಯ ಸುವಾಸನೆ ತುಂಬಿದ ಒಂದು ಸ್ಪರ್ಶಿಸುವ ಘಟನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ, ಕಾಸರಗೋಡು ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ಮಂಜೇಶ್ವರದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಸ್ನೇಹಾಲಯ ಚಾರಿಟೇಬಲ್ ಟ್ರಸ್ಟ್, ಬ್ರದರ್ ಜೋಸೆಫ್ ಕ್ರಾಸ್ತಾ ಅವರ ಮಾರ್ಗದರ್ಶನದಲ್ಲಿ, ಸುಮಾರು ಏಳು ವರ್ಷಗಳಿಂದ ಕಾಣೆಯಾಗಿದ್ದ ಸುನಿಲ್ ಕುಮಾರ್ (ನಿಜ ಹೆಸರು ಸೋನು) ಅವರನ್ನು ಅವರ ತಾಯಿ ಮತ್ತು ಸಹೋದರರೊಂದಿಗೆ ಭಾವುಕವಾಗಿ ಮರುಸೇರಿಸಿದೆ.

ಉತ್ತರ ಪ್ರದೇಶದ ಆಗ್ರಾ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ಪ್ರೇಮ್ ನಗರ, ರಾಜ್ಪುರ ಚುಂಗಿ ನಿವಾಸಿಯಾದ ಸುನಿಲ್ ಕುಮಾರ್ ಸುಮಾರು ಏಳು ವರ್ಷಗಳ ಹಿಂದೆ ಮನೆ ಬಿಟ್ಟು ಹೋಗಿ ಕಾಣೆಯಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಈ ಅವಧಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕುಟುಂಬವು ಅವರ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಯಾವುದೇ ಮಾಹಿತಿ ಪಡೆಯಲಾಗದೆ ಆತಂಕದಲ್ಲಿತ್ತು.

2026ರ ಜನವರಿ 15ರಂದು, ಮಂಗಳೂರು ಪಡೀಲ್ ಜಂಕ್ಷನ್ ಪ್ರದೇಶದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಲೆದಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಸುನಿಲ್ ಕುಮಾರ್ ಅವರನ್ನು ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಕಾರ್ಯಕರ್ತ ನವೀನ್ ಅವಿನ್ ವೇಗಾಸ್ ತೋಕೂರು ಅವರ ಮಾಹಿತಿಯ ಮೇರೆಗೆ ಸ್ನೇಹಾಲಯದ ತಂಡವು ರಕ್ಷಿಸಿ, ಸ್ನೇಹಾಲಯದ ಮಾನಸಿಕ-ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಪುನರ್ವಸತಿ ಕೇಂದ್ರಕ್ಕೆ ದಾಖಲಿಸಿತು.

ಆ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಅವರು ಅತ್ಯಂತ ದುರ್ಬಲ ಸ್ಥಿತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕಂಡುಬಂದರು. ವೈಯಕ್ತಿಕ ಸ್ವಚ್ಛತೆಯ ಕೊರತೆ, ತನ್ನಂತೆಯೇ ಮಾತನಾಡುವುದು, ಸಂವಹನದ ಕೊರತೆ, ಅಸಹಜ ವರ್ತನೆ, ಅಲೆದಾಡುವ ಸ್ವಭಾವ ಮತ್ತು ಗೊಂದಲದ ಸ್ಥಿತಿ ಇವುಗಳಿಂದ ಅವರು ಬಳಲುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಸ್ನೇಹಾಲಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಸಮರ್ಪಕ ಮಾನಸಿಕ ಹಾಗೂ ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಪುನರ್ವಸತಿ ಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆ ನೀಡಲಾಯಿತು.

ಕುಟುಂಬದ ಮಾಹಿತಿಯ ಪ್ರಕಾರ, ಮಾನಸಿಕ ಅಸ್ವಸ್ಥತೆ ಕಾಣಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ಮೊದಲು ಸೋನು ತಮ್ಮ ಸಹೋದರನೊಂದಿಗೆ ಪಂಡಾಲ್ ಮತ್ತು ಡೆಕೊರೇಷನ್ ವ್ಯವಹಾರದಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ನಂತರ ಕೆಟ್ಟ ಸಂಗಡಿಗರ ಪ್ರಭಾವದಿಂದ ಗಾಂಜಾ ಮತ್ತು ಇತರೆ ಮಾದಕ ವಸ್ತುಗಳ ವ್ಯಸನಕ್ಕೆ ಒಳಗಾಗಿ ಅವರ ಆರೋಗ್ಯ ಹದಗೆಟ್ಟಿತ್ತು. ಅವರು ಆಗ್ರಾ ಮಾನಸಿಕ ಆಸ್ಪತ್ರೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆ ಪಡೆದಿದ್ದು, ನೋಟು ಬದಲಾವಣೆ ಸಮಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆಲಕಾಲ ಜೈಲಿನಲ್ಲಿಯೂ ಇದ್ದರು. ನಂತರ ಅವರು ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣವಾಗಿ ಕಾಣೆಯಾಗಿದ್ದರು.

ಸ್ನೇಹಾಲಯದ ನಿರಂತರ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನಗಳಿಂದ ಕುಟುಂಬದ ಮಾಹಿತಿ ಪತ್ತೆಯಾಗಿ, ಮಾರ್ಚ್ 14, 2026 ರಂದು, ಸುನಿಲ್ ಕುಮಾರ್ ಅವರನ್ನು ಅವರ ಸಹೋದರ ಹಾಗೂ ತಾಯಿಯೊಂದಿಗೆ ಭಾವುಕ ಕ್ಷಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಮರುಸೇರಿಸಲಾಯಿತು. ಪ್ರಸ್ತುತ ಹೈದರಾಬಾದ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿ ಮಗಳೊಂದಿಗೆ ವಾಸಿಸುತ್ತಿರುವ ಅವರ ತಾಯಿ ಈ ಸುದ್ದಿ ತಿಳಿದು ಅಪಾರ ಸಂತೋಷ ಮತ್ತು ಕೃತಜ್ಞತೆಯನ್ನು ವ್ಯಕ್ತಪಡಿಸಿದರು.

From Seven Years of Separation to a Hopeful Reunion: Mr. Sunil Kumar Reunited with His Family

Manjeshwar, March 16, 2026: In an emotional moment of relief and hope, Mr. Sunil Kumar (real name Sonu), a native of 31/178 Prem Nagar, Rajpur Chungi, PO/PS Sadar Thana, Agra District, Uttar Pradesh, was successfully reunited with his brother and mother on 14/03/2026, bringing an end to nearly seven years of separation after he had gone missing.

Mr. Sunil Kumar had been missing for around seven years and was later found in a vulnerable condition at Padil Junction, Mangalore. He was observed with poor personal care, self-talk, poor communication, aggressive behaviour, wandering behaviour, and disorientation, indicating the urgent need for psychosocial care, protection, and rehabilitation.

The case was informed by Mr. Naveen Avin Veigas Thokur (Social Worker) to Br. Joseph Crasta, after which the Snehalaya Team took immediate action. He was picked up by the Snehalaya Team on 15/01/2026 from Padil Junction, Mangalore, and was admitted to Snehalaya Psychosocial Rehabilitation Centre on the same day for treatment, care, and rehabilitation.

Under the guidance of Br. Joseph Crasta, Founder of Snehalaya Charitable Trust, Mr. Sunil Kumar received care in a safe, supportive, and compassionate environment. During his stay, the Snehalaya Team made dedicated efforts to understand his background and trace his family in Uttar Pradesh.

According to the family, before the onset of mental illness, Sonu was working with his brother in a pandal and decoration business. They shared that he later fell into bad company and developed ganja/drug addiction, which contributed to his mental health condition. He had previously undergone treatment at Agra Mental Hospital and had also spent some time in jail during the Notebandi (demonetization) period. The family also stated that no missing complaint had been lodged during the years he remained missing.

After continuous follow-up and communication, Snehalaya was able to establish contact with his family and successfully arrange the reunion. On 14/03/2026, Mr. Sunil Kumar was reunited with his brother and mother. His mother, currently staying with her daughter in Hyderabad, expressed great happiness and relief on hearing the news of her son’s safe return.

The reunion was a deeply emotional moment filled with gratitude, relief, and renewed hope for the family after years of uncertainty. The family expressed heartfelt appreciation to Br. Joseph Crasta and the Snehalaya Team for their compassionate care, timely intervention, and dedicated efforts in protecting and rehabilitating Mr. Sunil Kumar during his vulnerable period.
