ಭಾಗ್ಯರಾಜ್ ಅವರ ಸಂಕಷ್ಟದ ಪಯಣ ಹಲವು ವರ್ಷಗಳ ಹಿಂದೆ ಆರಂಭವಾಗಿತ್ತು. ತಂಬಾಕು ಹಾಗೂ ಗಾಂಜಾ ವ್ಯಸನವು ಕ್ರಮೇಣ ಅವರ ಮಾನಸಿಕ ಆರೋಗ್ಯವನ್ನು ಗಂಭೀರವಾಗಿ ಹದಗೆಡಿಸಿತು. ಮನಸ್ಸಿನ ಸಮತೋಲನ ಕಳೆದುಕೊಂಡ ಅವರು ವಾಸ್ತವತೆಯಿಂದ ದೂರವಾಗುತ್ತಾ, ಮನೆ ಬಿಟ್ಟು ಹೊರಟರು. ತಾಯಿ ಮತ್ತು ಸಹೋದರಿಯವರು ಅವರ ಮರಳುವ ನಿರೀಕ್ಷೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ದಿನಗಳನ್ನು ಕಳೆಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು…. ಪ್ರತಿದಿನವೂ ಆತಂಕ ಮತ್ತು ಭಯದ ನಡುವೆ.

ಅವರನ್ನು ರಕ್ಷಿಸುವ ನಿಟ್ಟಿನಲ್ಲಿ, ಕುಟುಂಬದವರು ಹಿಂದಿನಂತೆ ಮಧುರೈ OM1 ಪುನರ್ವಸತಿ ಕೇಂದ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ಎರಡು ವರ್ಷಗಳ ಕಾಲ ಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆ ಕೊಡಿಸಿದರು. ಕೆಲ ಕಾಲ ಆಶಾಕಿರಣ ಕಂಡುಬಂದರೂ, ಬಿಡುಗಡೆಯ ನಂತರ ಭಾಗ್ಯರಾಜ್ ಮತ್ತೆ ವ್ಯಸನದ ಕಡೆ ತಿರುಗಿದರು. ಇದರಿಂದ ಮಾನಸಿಕ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆಗಳು ಮರುಕಳಿಸಿ, ಅವರು ಮತ್ತೆ ಬೀದಿಯ ಬದುಕಿಗೆ ತಳ್ಳಲ್ಪಟ್ಟರು.

ಈ ಸಂಕಷ್ಟದ ಸಮಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಥಣಲ್ ಫೌಂಡೇಶನ್ ಭಾಗ್ಯರಾಜ್ ಅವರನ್ನು ಬೀದಿಯಿಂದ ರಕ್ಷಿಸಿ ತಕ್ಷಣದ ಆರೈಕೆ ನೀಡಿತು. ದೀರ್ಘಕಾಲೀನ ಪುನರ್ವಸತಿ ಹಾಗೂ ಕುಟುಂಬ ಪತ್ತೆ ಅಗತ್ಯವಿದೆ ಎಂದು ಅರಿತು, 09-01-2025 ರಂದು ಅವರನ್ನು ಸ್ನೇಹಾಲಯ ಮನೋ–ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಪುನರ್ವಸತಿ ಕೇಂದ್ರ, ಮಂಜೇಶ್ವರಕ್ಕೆ ರವಾನಿಸಲಾಯಿತು.

ಸ್ನೇಹಾಲಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾಗ್ಯರಾಜ್ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಕೇವಲ ಆಶ್ರಯವಷ್ಟೇ ಅಲ್ಲ ನಿರಂತರ ವೈದ್ಯಕೀಯ ಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆ, ಮನೋಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಬೆಂಬಲ, ಸಮಾಲೋಚನೆ ಮತ್ತು ಮಾನವೀಯ ಗೌರವ ದೊರಕಿತು. ಬ್ರ. ಜೋಸೆಫ್ ಕ್ರಾಸ್ತಾ ಅವರ ಮಾರ್ಗದರ್ಶನದಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ನೇಹಾಲಯದ ತಂಡ ಸಹನೆ ಮತ್ತು ನಿಷ್ಠೆಯಿಂದ ಅವರ ಮಾನಸಿಕ ಸ್ಥಿರತೆಯ ಜೊತೆಗೆ ಕುಟುಂಬದ ಪತ್ತೆಗೆ ನಿರಂತರ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನ ನಡೆಸಿತು.
ತಿಂಗಳುಗಳು ಕಳೆದವು. ಸುಳಿವುಗಳು ಪರಿಶೀಲಿಸಲ್ಪಟ್ಟವು. ದಾಖಲೆಗಳು ಜೋಡಿಸಲ್ಪಟ್ಟವು.

ಒಂದು ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ವರ್ಷದ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನದ ಬಳಿಕ, ಕೊನೆಗೂ ಕುಂಭಕೋಣಂನಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾಗ್ಯರಾಜ್ ಅವರ ಕುಟುಂಬದ ವಿಳಾಸ ಪತ್ತೆಯಾಯಿತು.

From Streets of Despair to a Mother’s Embrace: Snehalaya Reunites Bhagyaraj with His Family After a Year of Separation

Manjeshwar, February 10, 2026: In a moving and deeply emotional reunion, Snehalaya Charitable Trust, under the compassionate leadership of Br. Joseph Crasta, successfully reunited Mr. Bhagyaraj with his mother and sister in Kumbakonam, Tamil Nadu —bringing an end to a year of anguish, uncertainty, and painful separation.

Bhagyaraj was admitted to Snehalaya on 09-01-2025 , after being referred by Thanal Foundation with the specific purpose of tracing his family and facilitating reunification. At the time of admission, he was in a vulnerable mental and emotional state, struggling with psychiatric distress that had led him to wander aimlessly on the streets.

His journey of suffering began much earlier. Bhagyaraj had developed a dependence on tobacco and ganja, which severely worsened his psychiatric condition. As his mental health deteriorated, he became disoriented and disconnected from reality, ultimately leaving home and losing contact with his family. His distressed mother and sister were left in a painful limbo—hoping for his return while fearing the worst.

In an attempt to save him, his family had previously admitted him to Madurai OM1 Rehabilitation Centre, where he underwent treatment for two years. For a brief period, there was hope that he would regain stability. However, after his discharge, Bhagyaraj unfortunately relapsed into substance use. This triggered a recurrence of psychiatric symptoms, leading him once again to wander the streets, vulnerable and alone.

During this period of crisis, Thanal Foundation stepped in and rescued him, providing immediate care and treatment. Recognizing the need for family tracing and long-term rehabilitation, Thanal later referred him to Snehalaya Charitable Trust for further care and reunification efforts.

Under the guidance of Brother Joseph Crasta, the Snehalaya team provided sustained psycho-social support, medical care, and compassionate counseling. With patience, dedication, and unwavering commitment, they worked tirelessly to restore his mental well-being while simultaneously tracing his family roots.

After one full year of effort, the Snehalaya team successfully located his family address in Kumbakonam, Tamil Nadu. The moment of reunion was profoundly emotional—his mother, overwhelmed with tears, embraced her son after months of separation, while his sister held his hands in disbelief and relief.

The reunion was not just a meeting of family members—it was the restoration of hope, dignity, and belonging. For Bhagyaraj, it marked the end of a painful chapter of homelessness and mental distress. For his family, it was the fulfillment of a year-long prayer.
